A Mother's Mission to Transform Learning Challenges into Triumphs
My Journey to Discover My Son's Potential
As an educator and counselor with over 20 years of experience, I've always had a nagging feeling that something was amiss in the way students learn. This intuition became personal when my son struggled with basic learning tasks like the alphabet and numbers from a very young age. Despite his remarkable spatial abilities, traditional learning methods were a constant struggle for him, and this discrepancy left me feeling guilty and inadequate.
Determined to find a solution, I embarked on a journey that began with addressing his stuttering at age 3. However, his difficulties in learning colors, numbers, and letters persisted. After numerous interventions, he was diagnosed with dyslexia and memory issues. Despite not qualifying for special education, his teachers and I explored every avenue, including extensive tutoring, which brought some progress.
Realizing that the traditional school system couldn't fully address his needs, I sought further training in cognitive processing, attention, and learning in Colorado and California. Applying these techniques at home, I witnessed significant improvements not only in my son but also in other adults who underwent similar training.
This experience led me to establish Duluth Core Learning. Here, we provide cognitive processing skills assessments and match students with personalized, research-based programs to develop their learning capabilities. My vision is to empower those with untapped potential, enabling them to gain independence and control over their cognitive functions, thereby opening new doors to success and fulfillment.
